Steps to maintaining the appearance of your car:
- Start with paint correction, especially if the car has never had this done before or if it has been over a year since the last time and if you do not currently have a well-maintained coating on the car. I recommend that you have a professional detailer do this unless you have the time and patience to learn how to use a DA (dual action) polisher.
- Apply a good coating. A coating will protect your paint and make your car easier to wash. Coatings last longer than sealants and sealants last longer than waxes. If you prefer wax, just know that it will only last about three months. A sealant might last up to six months. A coating can last up to roughly three years.
- Wash your car regularly; I would say once a week. If you’re car doesn’t get caked with dirt, use Optimum No Rinse instead of car shampoo; it is great for your weekly wash and you only need to wash and dry. If your car is pretty dirty, use a good car shampoo but still do a pre-rinse with Optimum No Rinse in a Hudson sprayer.
